6/30 readings
This reading was about how writing a memoir can help you. It can help you by allowing you to find yourself and in that you decide wether you are the person you want to be or not. The author tells us how he was in therapy for 15 years, meditated since 1971 and kept a journal for 20 years. After all this he decided that the only way to clear his mind was to stop think about who he wanted to be and focus on who he already is. He went through all that memories of his life and forgotten times thus better understanding people who had an impact on him. He figured out that like describing emotions helps ease peoples minds; maybe telling stories of emotions would have the same effect. Therefore you can say that writing can be therapeutic in that in eases and soothes our emotions.
By reading this article I realized why writing about how I feel always helps me feel better. I learned that its not about what you want to be but learning how to accept yourself for who you are. Take things from your past and write about them then look back and review what you have been through good or bad and make the best out of it. Use it to change or to keep yourself the way you are. So many people these are stressed, depressed or think that their life is so bad. I believe that they should write about their whole life and I am sure they will find a light at the end of the tunnel.
Why don’t people ever appreciate things when they have them; why does it take almost losing it to truly appreciate it?
If Jerry Waxler kept a journal for 20 years and was in therapy why did it take him so long to realize the benefit of talking or writing about emotions?
If writing about emotions can make you better understand yourself and make you feel better; can it have the adverse effect? Can you have an overload of emotions or just completely not know who you are anymore?
